Mushroom-based nutraceutical products can be derived from different parts of the fungal organism and processed in different ways. The three most common categories—mycelial biomass, fruiting body, and extracts—differ in composition, production methods, and typical applications.

Mycelial Biomass (M)

Mycelial biomass is derived from the vegetative stage of the mushroom, cultivated through controlled fermentation on a rice substrate. This format delivers a whole-system ingredient that reflects the organism’s active growth phase. Our mycelial biomass also contains primordia, or young fruit bodies, making them a full-spectrum offering.

Fruit Body (F)

The fruit body is the mature, above-ground structure of the mushroom, cultivated and harvested at full development. It has a long history of use in food, wellness, and traditional practices. Fruit body biomass for four varieties is ready available today, and we can work with motivated customers to cultivate fruit body products for other varieties.

Extract (X)

Extracts are produced by processing mycelial biomass and/or fruiting bodies to concentrate specific groups of compounds, using water, ethanol, or dual-extraction techniques. We currently have Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) extract available with other extracts in development.

These formats are not mutually exclusive—they can be used individually or in combination to achieve specific formulation and positioning goals. Whether prioritizing whole-ingredient integrity, production efficiency, or concentrated actives, each format plays a valuable role in building high-quality mushroom-based products.

Mycoplex-7, 375g

A mycelial biomass blend of 7 mushroom species grown on organic brown rice, 375 grams. Equal parts Agaricus blazei, Trametes versicolor, Hericium erinaceus, Poria cocos, Schizophyllum commune, Annulohypoxylon stygium, & Bionectria ochroleuca (a fungal isolate of Cordyceps sinensis).
